Chef Evelyn Garcia & Chef Henry Lu

 

Houston native, Chef Evelyn García is the Chef/Co-owner of byKin HTX. Having cooked throughout NYC with stings at Jean George Spice Market under Chef Anthony Ricco, Masak with Chef Larry Reutens & Kin Shop, Chef Harold Dieterle, Evelyn honed her skills, passion and drive for Southeast Asian food and culture. 

A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Chef Evelyn has worked in NYC for 10 years before moving back home to Houston. With strong family ties and love for her hometown, Evelyn knew she wanted to build what is now known as byKin HTX in Houston, Texas, a Southeast Asian inspired concept. From pop ups, to chef residencies, restaurant and a product line byKIN HTX continues to evolve and showcase her passion for South East Asian flavors & local agriculture.

New York City native, raised in the Bronx, NY. Chef Henry Lu, at a young age, started his career at his parents’ Chinese restaurants. Attended the French Culinary Institute, and has since worked in some of NYC most notable restaurant. Became a Sous Chef at Pearl and Ash, which earned NYT 2-Stars & Bon Appetit’s Top 10 Best New Restaurant 2013 and Williamsburg hit spot Llama Inn, NYT 2-Stars. From 2017 - 2020, was the Executive Chef of Four Happy Men Hospitality Group, which included Loosie’s Kitchen, Loosie’s Rouge, Etiquette Space & Cafe, and Sauced as well as being featured on the Eaters NY 2018 “The Best Dishes [. . .], Food & Wine 2019 [. . . You Won’t Want to Miss], and Gotham Mag 2019 [Celebrate. . . with Chef Henry’s Tradition]”.  2020, Chef Henry Lu moved to Houston Texas to become chef/partner at byKin HTX with Chef Evelyn Garcia and to open their fist restaurant Jūn located in the heart of the Houston Heights neighborhood.
